TUESDAY 30 MAY
With two consecutive shows earlier this year selling out in record fast time, Bird On The Wire are pleased to announce Mac DeMarco and his trusty touring band will play their biggest UK headline show yet at O2 Academy Brixton in May 2017.
Mac DeMarco (A.K.A. 26-year old MacBriare Samuel Lanyon DeMarco) will release This Old Dog, his third album and first full-length since 2014’s Salad Days, on May 5th 2017 worldwide via Captured Tracks.
It was a little space—in time, location (he moved from Queens to Los Angeles), and method—that inspired DeMarco while making This Old Dog. Arriving in California with a grip of demos he’d written in New York, he realized after a few months of setting up his new shop that the gap was giving him perspective.
DeMarco wrote some demos for This Old Dog on an acoustic guitar, an eye-opening method for him. “The majority of this album is acoustic guitar, synthesizer, some drum machine, and one song is electric guitar. So this is a new thing for me.” And right from the offset, from the pops and clicks of the CR-78 and acoustic strums on the album-opening “My Old Man,” and the synth-drenched beauty of the second track, “This Old Dog,” it’s clear that DeMarco’s bag is filled with new tricks indeed.
Since his first London show at the more-than-intimate Birthdays in Dalston 4 years ago, Mac DeMarco’s shows have doubled in both size and energy every time he returns from across the pond.
The Courtneys drift back to the sound of the early '90s. Courtney Loove's dreamy guitar riffs add a timeless powerpop element to the punk backbone formed by Sydney Koke's driving basslines, while drummer/lead singer Jen Twynn Payne delivers heartfelt lyrics with a powerful vocal style. These components come together through a passionate collaborative songwriting process to deliver a special blend of fuzzy «artisanal grunge».
