On 28th June 2016, to commemorate Freud’s emigration from Vienna to London, the artist Paul Coldwell invited students from the Business Academy Donaustadt, Vienna, to gather in Sigmund Freud Park and release 100 white helium-filled balloons, each with a postcard attached. Each postcard carried a message asking that, if found, it be forwarded to the Freud Museum London.
Filming the event was Emmy Award-winning writer, director and producer Susan Steinberg, whose resulting film is called The Hope. Best known for her work on PBS series American Masters, Steinberg has produced and directed documentaries on Paul Simon, Edward R. Murrow and the founder of Atlantic Records, Ahmet Ertegun.
Here, the artist and film-maker will sit down to discuss the film, which is showing at the Freud Museum to accompany Paul Coldwell's exhibition Temporarily Accessioned: Freud's Coat Revisited.
