Brave explorers are headed for the far reaches of the galaxy in the continuation of the story that began with 2001: A Space Odyssey. Their destination is Jupiter, where the Russian and American crew of the Leonov will rendezvous with the still-orbiting Discovery. Drs. Heywood Floyd (Roy Scheider), Walter Curnow (John Lithgow) and R. Chandra (Bob Balaban), along with shipmates Tanya (Helen Mirren) and Dave (Keir Dullea), aim to uncover what led to disaster for the deceased astronauts who preceded them…

“A vastly underappreciated sequel with a fine lead performance by Roy Scheider. Director Peter Hyams took a huge gamble, and succeeds beautifully”
–Fantastica Daily

“Hyams’ sequel to Kubrick’s big daddy of sci-fi movies may not have the novelty of 2001: A Space Odyssey, but it is still a better film than anyone could have dared to expect”
–Time Out

The film will be preceded by a talk from Professor Andrew Coates of the Mullard Space Science Laboratory / UCL who will talk about icy moons and Mars as potential locations for life beyond Earth.
