Atelier de conversation — film plays in Competition as part of Open City Documentary Festival's Emerging International Filmmaker Award. Screening on Thursday 7 September at Regent Street Cinema, the documentary is a tender and humane look at communication in the twenty-first century. The film focusses on members of the Atelier De Conversation class at Centre Pompidou — a group of strangers from around the world who meet once a week to practice French. Full of warmth and humour, with flashes of emotional intensity, the students find comfort together and overcome their language barriers, often by communicating in the universal language of laughter, facial expressions and glances.
