Calling all night owls, early birds and insomniacs. Join a conversation between London’s first Night Czar Amy Lamé and the Artistic Director of the Serpentine Galleries/founder of the Brutally Early Club Hans Ulrich Obrist, in a talk moderated by writer and curator Emily King.

Does art have a special relationship with the night? While most art forms blossom after working hours, access to visual art tends to shut down before sunset. Might this be a wasted opportunity?

A long-time doyenne of cabaret and host of night clubs, with a forthcoming book, From Prejudice to Pride: A History of the LGBT+ Movement, Amy Lamé has been charged by the Mayor with preserving London’s night time culture and economy in all its forms. Meanwhile, Hans Ulrich Obrist has prioritised night time activity throughout his career, calling regular meetings of his Brutally Early Club in the middle of the night. Out and about while most are abed, do they experience a different city, one that is free of daytime’s restrictions and inhibitions? And, if so, does art have a particular role to play in the city of the night?
