Sad House Daddy presents Starry Starry Nights, a monthly live music show held in east London at The Star by Hackney Downs. Entry is £6 on the door and tonight we welcome the following five fantastic acts all making their Starry Starry Nights debuts:
7:30pm GABI GARBUTT
Previously frontwoman and lead songwriter in The Sticklers, Gabi Garbutt is a singer/songwriter from London whose style draws from the alternative pop of Ezra Furman and The Flaming Lips and punk poets such as Patti Smith. Gabi is now collaborating with producer and musician Sean Read (Dexys Midnight Runners, Chrissie Hynde, Manic Street Preachers) and playing a number of shows with her band, including opening slots this Summer for both Frank Turner and The Libertines!
Joviale is a 22-year-old female singer/songwriter from north London pouring her heart out on sultry late night songs that will reverberate in your dreams.
8:50pm LOS FELIZ
LosFeliz Music is the music vehicle for Lucy Powell, a Brighton based alt-folk singer-songwriter who specialises in melancholia, chamber-like vocals & reverb guitar. She has just released her debut album «Ancestry» on Union Music Store's label and has been performing intimate sets around Sussex, Wales and London, including Sofar Sounds, living room shows, sets at the Hope and Ruin, Prince Albert, Latest Music Bar, an End of the Trail Records showcase and small independent festivals. All of the songs on the album were recorded in a rural chapel in Wales that Lucy's ancestors built and was produced by Kevin M. Johnston (I touched the Undertow, MoonAltar). LosFeliz's music is meant to be listened to mostly in the dark, and will take you to a place where nostalgia and intimacy live harmoniously.
9:30pm BALDO VERDÚ
Baldo Verdú is a songwriter, guitarist and percussionist with a lifelong experience among Venezuelan traditional rhythms, as well as in genres as diverse as rock, funk and Tropicália. A multi-faceted musician, touring artist and producer, Baldo is also the singer, songwriter and guitarist in the bands Tonto Malembe and The BaBy Factory, as well as percussionist in the groups Fumaça Preta, Animanz and Nocturne.
10:10pm VICTOR VOX
Starting out on African drums before picking up a flamenco guitar and later training as a jazz singer in Paris, Victor Vox is a London based performer and songwriter playing a sophisticated mix of blues, rock and folk music. Soulfully blending his background in world music with a passion for storytelling, Victor's influences include Tom Waits, David Bowie, Lhasa De Sela, Jeff Buckley, PJ Harvey and David Byrne. Performing live as a trio, Victor is accompanied on stage by two of London’s finest musicians — Yaron Stavi on double bass (David Gilmour, Richard Galliano) and Adam Hayes on drums (Beatie Wolfe, Grace Moon & The Jaguar). The trio have just released their debut EP, «Live at Eastcote Studios», available via Bandcamp.
