Deckhand to port side for the Nautical Ride!
We have planned an amazing journey from Greenwich to Gravesend, crossing the river on the ferry to visit Tilbury Fort, before riding back through Rainham Marshes and ending at Woolwich. For those who make it to the end, we will jump on the ferry and take a trip on the Thames Clipper up to Westminster!
WARNING: This is going to be a challenging route and is not our usual city ride…
The ride will be 51 miles long! We'll be riding at a steady pace of 12-13mph average. You should have experience riding this type of distance. The ride will last around 6-8 hours.
We'll be riding next to the river and will include rough sections of gravel paths, grass, mud, you name it! Your bike will need suitable tyres. Road bikes with slicks is not a good idea. Neither are Boris Bikes…
Dress warm and bring waterproofs! Bring plenty of food and drinks, there will be food and toilet stops along the way.
— JOINING THE EVENT: This is a free ride and everyone can join, you do not need to register. So invite all your friends! The ride is relatively fast and involves riding on roads so this event suits more experienced cyclists. To turn up the heat, we whole-heartedly encourage you to dress up (please note that we do not provide the bikes).
SAFETY: During the ride we will be riding on the road with vehicular traffic. We encourage everyone to ride safely as you will be responsible for your own safety and we are not responsible for any injuries or accidents during the ride. For your safety we recommend wearing a helmet, but you are free not to.
CHECK YOUR BIKE: Please make sure your bike is in good condition and you check your brakes and tyres. If you have a mechanical problem or flat during the ride we will try to help you!
WEATHER: If the ride has to be cancelled due to being terrible we will update the event page 12 hours in advance.
