We are excited to be hosting this unique event here in The Lab, conducted by Polly Teale in assocation with 'Young Vic Taking Part'. They will be presenting a rehearsal style performance followed by an open discussion about how different women perceive the meaning of 'being visible' in society and what hair signifies to them.
In a series of live interviews, we talk to women about what it means to be visible, or invisible, in the world today. Women from different religions, races and cultures tell us what their hair means to them. We hear from Muslim women who cover their hair and a fifteen year old who decides to shave her head, as well as an ex stripper who won't go out without a full head of blonde extensions. Young women describe how they shave their entire body whilst spending hours achieving the 'perfect' lustrous head of hair.
Come and join us as we share these powerful stories and explore what they might mean.
