'Old Paradise Yard' 20 Carlisle Lane, SE1 7LG London, United Kingdom
Edition 1: Rothko, Yellow6, Darkroom
Mark Beazley, Graham Dowdall AKA Gagarin, Johny Brown of Band Of Holy Joy with Inga Tillere on visuals.
This will be a one-off performance by Rothko, not to be repeated. Dark bass movements and cinematic drone. A London-based ambient and bass project, Rothko was first formed in 1997 and has had several permutations, its continuous link being experimental musician and bassist Mark Beazley.
Beautiful, shimmering and blissful guitar treatments. Slow-motion, instrumental dreamland. Heavily reverbed, beautifully distorted guitars gracefully ascend, swoon and dip, freefall towards the earth, then catch themselves again, slowly tracing a complex and epic trail. Jon Attwood's all-instrumental compositions quietly arouse emptiness, void and the likeness of being.
Andrew Ostler and Michael Bearpark.
Supreme soundscapes and emotive minimalism. Guitar but not guitar; synthesizers but not keyboards, Darkroom's music starts with improvisation and a distinctive approach to sound design, followed by disciplined editing and stop-motion studio craft. By turns beautiful and beautifully ugly, theirs is a very human music that always sounds 'played' not 'programmed', despite the technology that's essential for producing it.
