REEL LOVE: A DAY OF MOVIES ABOUT MOVIES is a special collaboration between the Genesis and the publisher Unbound, and curated by graphic novellist (and Genesis poster artist) Owen Michael Johnson to support the upcoming graphic novel, Reel Love, currently crowdfunding at Unbound.
Presenting a one-day event screening films about the movie business: from projectors to production hell to popcorn, the day is an affectionate celebration of the art of making movies and includes Woody Allen's The Purple Rose Of Cairo, Tim Burton's Ed Wood and Giuseppe Tornatore's Cinema Paradiso.
We offer a £15 ticket that covers all the screenings and events of this special day, including to an extra bar screening of Joe Dante's Matinee, an exclusive poster, and a very special comic book craft workshop, where you can learn how to make your ideas come to life on the page. We also offer individidual tickets to each screening. Get yours now!
This film will open with an intoduction by Owen.
''Unhappily married Depression-era waitress Cecilia earns the money while her inattentive husband, Monk, blows their meager income on getting drunk and gambling. To assuage her loneliness, Cecilia escapes to the picture show and becomes transfixed with the movie «The Purple Rose of Cairo,» and especially with its lead character, archeologist Tom Baxter. When Tom literally steps off of the screen and into her life, both realities are thrown into chaos.''
