To celebrate the release of the new Jez Hellard & The Djukella Orchestra live album, D'rect from the Shire, the full-fat Djukella Orchestra will be playing a show of deeply relevant songs and rip-roaring tunes to provide the perfect balm for these febrile times.
Featuring the Hebridean lilt of Alastair Caplin (The Langan Band, Band of Burns), the London Irish grit of TEYR (James Gavin, Dominic Henderson & Tommie Black-Roff), the lugubrious lyricism of double-bass wizard, Nye Parsons and Hellard’s deft guitar picking and frankly stunning harmonica playing, it will be special.
They will be joined by the folksome brilliance of rising stars Nick Hart and Dominie Hooper for an opening set and a grand finale.
Jez Hellard & The Djukella Orchestra, play traditional and contemporary folk music, from jigs, reels and rebel ballads to tango, rhumba and even reggae. Featuring one of the most captivating double-bassists you're likely to hear and some of the finest instrumentalists on the UK folk scene, their blend of virtuoso musicianship, witty political comment and a deep repertoire of powerful songs never fails to turn heads. Since hitting the road full time in 2005, Jez has played well over a thousand gigs; from the Glastonbury Festival to the North Country Fair, New York to Taipei, Istanbul to the Iberian Peninsular.
“Ridiculously enjoyable… an unequivocal thumbs up.” Folk Radio UK
Nick Hart & Dominie Hooper are an exciting new duo appearing on the UK folk scene for 2017. Having both spent years refining their own crafts, they come together to present Traditional English Folk Songs collected from and between their respective homes of Dartmoor and East Anglia. With stunningly clear vocal harmonies and the exquisite accompaniment of Nick’s subtle, finger-picked guitar, they give fascinating and refreshing insights into the often obscured genre of English Traditional Song."
