Bamako Overground youtu.be/Q0ubjldqyCw
Born in the inspired mind of London’s own Malian rhythm buff Hans Sutton, Bamako Overground have been busy forging a new sound. The trio are irresistibly seduced by the music of West Africa, blending its influences overtly and covertly with their own carefully-selected flavours to settle into mystical dance grooves and desert blues.
Hans plays his distinctive hybrid drum kit which has previously brought Mandé styles to artists such as Nick Mulvey and Cocos Lovers, while at his flanks are the sparkling guitar of Yaaba Funk co-founder Tobias Sturmer and the hypnotic, heavy bass of folk maestro and Woodburner impresario Theo Bard.
Deep and soulful rhythms meet soaring melodies, while smooth three-part vocal harmonies spin allegories in Bamanakan and English to complete a brew that’s compelling and utterly unique.
'Deep and soulful rhythms meet soaring melodies while crunching three-part vocal harmonies speak of pilgrimage and placelessness, spinning allegories in Bamanankan and English to complete a brew that’s compelling and utterly unique....they are as compelling live as on record, rewarding each listener with their spiritual grigri grooves, psychedelic desert blues and mystically mazy melodies.' Judelman's Interstate Express bit.ly/2CiO8jN
Judelman's Interstate Express is a new band formed literally on the road between an old time square dance in the Appalachian Mountains of Tennessee and Mardi Gras in New Orleans. The band is formed of Craig Judelman (USA) on Fiddle and vocals, Jack Latimer (AUS) on guitar, mandolin and vocals, and Joe Buirski (UK) on Banjo and Vocals. The group explore the music of the early American immigrant communities and how various styles and cultures combined to form American Folk Music as we know it today. Expect bangin' old time dance tunes, murder ballads, early rags and blues, and even the odd Yiddish tune for good measure!
The Silken Same youtu.be/zyAcPeh3tiw
“If we’re talking about being firmly rooted between the traditional and the modern, then no-one embodies that more perfectly …. sparkles with vigour” — Nialler9
The Silken Same are Galway duo Mossy Nolan and Colm McGowan. Already known in their native Ireland, and having supported a formidable roll call of artists such This is the Kit, LAU, Luka Bloom, Seamus Fogarty, Pictish Trail, RM Hubbert, and Cass McCombs, they are making their UK debut in 2018.
Theirs is a sound that artfully combines the bygone and the new, drawing on Irish and Balkan influences; songs that on the face of it will seem instantly familiar, but that supplant the traditional with fresh melodic and conceptual ideas.
