— Three of the UK's most vital new talents close out The Pickle Factory's 2017 regular in-house programme on 8th December. Michiganite via South-East London Karen Gwyer headlines with a debut live performance, joined by extended sets from rising Bristolian Shanti Celeste, and woman of the moment Josey Rebelle.
Karen Gwyer has a truly singular take on dance music. The expatriated American makes techno at points soothing, strange, spiky, tough and ruthless. Across well-received records for Opal Tapes, Nous, and not least a superb recent album for Pickle favourite Don't Be Afraid, she has proven her ability to make soulful machine music in all styles and textures. As a live performer, she is truly special, one of the finest techno live acts we have yet to witness.
She's joined by Brstl and Housework boss Shanti Celeste. Shanti has been on our radar for a while — a highly skilled producer, and truly excellent DJ. Radio host, DJ and record digger-without-equal Josey Rebelle rounds out the lineup. Josey's Rinse FM show might be the best weekly three hours of radio on London's airwaves. A truly diverse selector, in Josey's hands soul runs into dub, into house, techno, garage and Golden Age electro, all mixed fast and fearlessly. Rebelle is the perfect DJ for an extended session on 8th December.
