Award-winning British music producer, mixer and Ivor Novello-nominated songwriter and musician, Mark Ralph, will be In Conversation with ICMP's BA Creative Music Production Programme Leader, Jason O'Bryan.
Ralph started his career as a session guitarist, recording and playing live with a long list of artists, which include Gwen Stefani, Roy Ayers, Sister Sledge, Pet Shop Boys, Ringo Starr, Sly & Robbie, Screaming Lord Sutch, Edwyn Collins, Horace Andy, Tom Jones, Holly Johnson, Fatboy Slim, Ronnie Wood, Fatback Band and Robbie Williams.
He cut his production teeth as a member of acclaimed electronic trio The Filthy Dukes, who released their one and only album “Nonsense In The Dark” in 2009 to great critical acclaim, as well as remixing the likes of Bloc Party, The Rakes, Death From Above 1979, Florence and the Machine, Temper Trap, Lady Gaga and Passion Pit, in the process.
He used this as a springboard to develop his skills as a producer, mixer and writer, producing a variety of electronic and also guitar-based music, including Hot Natured, Egyptian Hip Hop, Hudson Mohawke, Infinity Ink, Death In Vegas, Friendly Fires, MK, Foxes, Jagwa Ma, Franz Ferdinand, Anna Calvi, George Fitzgerald and Hot Chip, amongst others.
In recent times he has co-produced and mixed international hits including Clean Bandit’s Christmas No.1 single 'Rockabye' and 'Symphony', as well as performing the same duties on Clean Bandit’s previous UK Top 5 single 'Tears'.
Mark also co-wrote and co-produced Years & Years’ debut album Communion, including No. 1 single 'King', as well hit singles 'Desire', 'Shine' and 'Eyes Shut'.
In May 2016, he was nominated for an Ivor Novello Award for 'PRS Most Performed Work' for 'King' by Years & Years and in November 2016 he won 'Producer of the Year' at the UK A&R Awards in London. At the 2017 Brit Awards 'Rockabye' by Clean Bandit is nominated for both the 'Best British Single' and 'British Artist Video of the Year' awards.
2017 has seen Mark work on releases from ALMA, Amber Mark, Bob Dylan, Pete Tong, MC Fioti, Tiga, Drones Club, Daniel Avery, Jax Jones, Take That, Clean Bandit, Fickle Friends, Salen, Off Bloom, Punctual, The Magician, Disciples, Ira Estrefi, Plan B, Felix Jaehn, Rudimental, Rag ‘N’ Bone Man, Lee Foss and Alice Chater, amongst others.
