Neuroscience of Self-Change

Each of us has a unique brain, which has been shaped by our genes, past experiences. That shapes the way we perceive the world and what personality traits we developed over time. Moreover, our current situation and the way we engage with it with our most dominant thoughts, actions, and emotions keep constantly changing the networks of the brain, thus, we keep on changing all the time. However, sometimes that change is not to the direction we like and we develop traits we want to get rid of, such as negative mind chatter, procrastination, lack of enthusiasm, pessimism, fear of change, lack of self-esteem to name just a few. The good news is that our brains have the enormous capacity to change if only we work according to rather than against its natural laws. Thus, in order to create a real personal change, we first need to understand how our brain created our current personality and what is needed for it to change. Neuroscientist Gabija Toleikyte (PhD) has developed this talk specifically for this reason — to help people understand the workings of the brain in the way we perceive our past experiences and build our model of the world and personality in it and brain-based tips on practical steps for us to change.

In this talk neuroscientist Gabija Toleikyte (PhD) will cover:

How do we perceive the world?
How reliable are our memories?
Do our emotions affect the way we remember and recall events?
How do we form a model of the world?
How do we form personality and can we change it?
What are the traits of growth and fixed mindsets and when we use each of them?
Practical tips on how to promote the growth mindset.
Practical tips on how to gradually change the character traits you don't like.
