Menswear Revolution: The Transformation of Contemporary Men’s Fashion
Thursday 5 April | 6-8pm

In this insightful talk on the transformation of Menswear from the millennium to the present day, author McCauley Bowstead questions the wider effect of contemporary menswear on gender, fashion and the body. Studying important figures and fashion houses from Raf Simons and Hedi Slimane of Dior Homme to JW Anderson and Balenciaga, McCauley unpicks the world of menswear design and the complex issues at play within it.

Menswear Revolution: The Transformation of Contemporary Men’s Fashion, published by Bloomsbury, May 2018, builds a complex picture of what is happening now in the world of menswear design and its relationship to changing concept of gender. Providing a much-needed update to scholarship on masculinity, fashion and the body, the book is essential reading for students and scholars of fashion, menswear, and consumption, as well as cultural and gender studies.

Jay McCauley Bowstead is a Lecturer in Cultural and Historical Studies at London College of Fashion, University of Arts London, UK. He is a trained fashion designer and has worked for brands such as Burberry, Biba International and Les Chiffoniers, as well as being a founding member of the Anglo-Korean fashion label Design Workers. He has recently completed collaboration with knit studio Sophie Steller for exhibitions in Shanghai and New York.

The event starts at 6pm with a glass of wine in the Museum foyer and opportunity to view the current exhibition. The talk follows at 6.15pm for 6.20pm in the Fashion Studio and lasts for approximately one hour including an opportunity to ask questions and followed by a book signing in the foyer. Ticket includes admission to the exhibition and guests are welcome to view this before or after the talk.

Price £15 / £12 students includes a complimentary drink and exhibition entry.
