London Intl Ska Festival event 4 of 16
Thursday 29th March 2018 — doors 11pm-3am
Barrie Sharpe — The Big Stuff maestro
+ special guest Alan Handscombe
at the O2 Academy2 Islington
Barrie K Sharpe, was one of the four creators of the iconic fashion brand Duffer of St. George, one of the two creators of the “Rare Groove” scene and in the band that was said to have defined Acid Jazz — Diana Brown & The Bothers, who metamorphosed into The Brand New Heavies and The Young Disciples.
Along With Diana Brown, Barrie had the first Acid Jazz style commercial success with their track “Masterplan”, a hit on both sides of the atlantic.
Not surprising then that he is best known for contribution to funk, but his superb collection of ska, rocksteady and reggae is something he has been building since 1970. And something that regularly gets aired at his rammed Big Stuff nights which he runs with Femi Fem (Young Disciples).
Whether through fashion or music he has been very much at the forefront of the movement that changed youth culture since the mid 80s.
For the 30th anniversary of The London Intl Ska Festival Barrie will be hosting the clubnight (day 1 of The London International Ska Festival — Thurs 29th March'18) at the O2 Academy Islington room 2. Expect killer, dancefloor fillers all night long.
He will be joined by Alan Handscombe, another DJ rated as one of the best in London, who DJ'd at the first ever ska festival back in 88!
