Join co-curator of T-SHIRT: CULT – CULTURE – SUBVERSION Jenna Rossi-Camus and discover what it takes to curate a fashion exhibition.

Since founding the Fashion and Textile Museum by Dame Zandra Rhodes in 2003, fashion exhibitions have been a rapid area of growth in Museums around the world. The popularity of blockbuster exhibitions in Paris (Christian Dior, Designer of Dreams, The Musée des Arts Décoratifs) London, (Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty, V&A) and New York (Rei Kawakubo / Comme Des Garcon, Art of the In-Between, The Met) have raised the profile of design and particularly fashion design and designers as museum worthy subjects.

Though popular, exhibitions on fashion design present specific challenges for museums and curators, such as constraints on physical display including low light levels and short display periods. Exhibiting fashion also engages with conceptual issues around the status of fashion and our relationships to clothing.

Follow Jenna’s journey from a theatrical costume designer, as a student on the MA in Fashion Curation at The London College of Fashion, her work curating and designing for museums and fashion brands and current studies on her PhD exploring Fashion and Humour. Jenna will discuss the challenges faced by fashion curators alongside career highlights and her views on the future of fashion curation as a discipline that can create dialogues around fashion topics and be a vehicle for investigating not merely celebrating fashion.

The event starts at 6pm with a glass of wine in the Museum foyer and opportunity to view the current exhibition. The talk follows at 6.15pm for 6.20pm in the Fashion Studio and lasts for approximately one hour including an opportunity to ask questions, followed by a book signing in the foyer. Ticket includes admission to the exhibition and guests are welcome to view this before or after the talk.
