The Feminist Library
5 Westminster Bridge Road, SE1 7XW London, United Kingdom
Come and celebrate our 43rd birthday and hear about iconic feminist publishing down the years. We will be joined by Sue O’Sullivan, who worked on Spare Rib magazine and was part of Sheba Feminist Publishers; Rachael House, feminist artist who has been making zines since the 1980s and continues today; Sylvester Onwordi, who set up Omenala Press to republish the works of his mother, Buchi Emecheta, the noted Nigerian novelist; Bibi Bakare-Yusuf, publisher of Cassava Republic Press; and members of the Feminist Print Network. Join the discussion about feminist publishing yesterday, today, and tomorrow – and most importantly, eat cake and raise a glass to help us celebrate! Entry by donation.
As well as marking 100 years since (some) women got the vote, 2018 also marks the 50th anniversary of the Women’s Liberation Movement starting in Britain. At the Feminist Library, we will be celebrating the modern movement throughout this anniversary year, starting with this event, which coincides with our 43rd birthday!
