Austin Osman Spare & Kenneth Grant
Lecture — Michael Staley £9
English occultist Kenneth Grant (1924 — 2011) was singlehandedly responsible for creating the cult status of South London artist Austin Osman Spare (1886-1956) who is now widely acclaimed. A young Grant and his wife befriended and championed the older man, whose ideas and persona were celebrated and incorporated into Grant's prolific literary oeuvre — witchcraft, sigils, philosophy and the role of the unconscious.
Michael Staley, Grant's successor in the Typhonian Order, tonight discusses Grant’s understanding and presentation of Spare across the decades, drawing on not only published works but many unseen typescripts and diary entries.
