The Line up…
«Enthralling, mind-blowingly original and totally bonkers: just a few ways to describe Thomas Truax and his creative circus of the wonderfully surreal.» -Alex Flynn, Brighton Noise
Thomas Truax (pronounced troo-aks) travels the world performing with his «band» of bizarre self-made instruments including a motorized drum machine made of bike wheels called 'Mother Superior' and a pimped-up Gramophone called 'The Hornicator', as well as his venerable resonator guitar 'Hank'. His 9th album 'All That Heaven Allows' is released February.
More than just an inventor and entertainer, Truax crafts rich, poetically evocative songs about insects, trees, technology and various reasons 'Why Dogs Howl at The Moon'. Notable supporters and collaborators include Jarvis Cocker, Amanda Palmer and Brian Viglione (Dresden Dolls/Violent Femmes) and the author Terry Pratchett, who recently stated that if he were invited back on the BBC's 'Desert Island Disks', he would include a Truax album in his top choices.
«When he performs, it is a spectacle — the originality and seeming impossibility of what he does is much of the appeal.» -The Guardian
«Truax is shaping up nicely as one of the great rock eccentrics» — Uncut
«His gigs are extraordinary, like cabaret nights fizzing with showmanship.» -Q
Mein Haus are Patricia Stepien (violin) and Elliot Murphy (cello, guitar). Their music is by turns creepy and sparse, then intense and dramatic. But whether it’s complex rhythmic interplay, or crunching cello and soaring violin, you feel the humour is never far away.
Alex Starling has circled the musical firmament for the last decade.
He was integral to the early successes of Ou Est Le Swimming Pool, before the untimely death of their lead singer, Charlie Haddon in 2010. Then, with his course altered immeasurably, he undertook solo shows headlining in Germany and the U.S., before forming The Ghosts, spectres of ethereal synth pop. Architects of inspiration and melancholy.
His voice is a mirror to the hopeful and the macabre, as clear as crystal-cut glass, but with a remarkable softness, like memories of dreams and drunkenness, or the comforting words of a friend in a dark room.
