2018 marks the 70th anniversary of the 1948 Palestinian exodus, also known as the Nakba or «catastrophe».

UK-based Palestinian writers and directors Ahmed Masoud and Ahmed Najar have teamed up with fellow Gazan Khaled Ziada — founder of Arabic culture promoters MARSM UK — to bring you this week-long festival of theatre, dance, films and talks commemorating the Palestinian experience of dispossession and loss of a homeland.

Working closely with Amnesty International UK, the Hoping Foundation, Amos Trust, the Palestine Solidarity Campaign and Al Zaytouna Dance Theatre they have brought together this creative response to decades of injustice.

EVENTS:

The Shroud Maker by Ahmed Masoud:
This one-woman comedy weaves comic fantasy and satire with true stories told first hand to the writer, and offers a vivid portrait of Palestinian life in Gaza.

Project 51 by Al Zaytouna Dance Theatre with Hava Dance Group, written and directed by Ahmed Najar:
This performance centres oround a Gazan man trying to distract his daughter from explosions and the sound of drones and military aeroplanes through the creative use oftraditional Palestinian folk dance ‘Dabke’ which blends seamlessly with modern dance and theatre.

Sanaa Moussa by Marsm:
Renowned Palestinian singer Sana Moussa’s work is a tribute to Palestinian women’s folklore and a celebration of indigenous traditions in the face of occupation and globalization.

Palestinian Refugees and the Right of Return by Palestine Solidarity Campaign:
This conference will include sessions on international law, the historical background of the displacement, experiences of refugees and the various discourses encompassing the right of return.
