This special intimate event will be held at The Old Church in Stoke Newington.
Grimm Grimm
Grimm Grimm is the musical moniker of London-based Tokyo-born singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer Koichi Yamanoha. Yamanoha's debut Grimm Grimm EP, Kazega Fuitara Sayonara, was released in late 2014 via Charlotte Marionneau and Kevin Shields’ Pickpocket Records, followed by his debut album, Hazy Eyes Maybe, on ATP Record...ings in 2015. His forthcoming sophomore album, Cliffhanger, will be released by Some Other Planet in partnership with Kartel Music Group in June 2018.
Cliffhanger features otherworldly forays into baroque folk, futurist lyricism and electroacoustic oddities. There are opaque, semi-conscious pop deconstructions such as 'Afraid' or 'Take Me Down to Coney Island'. 'Ballad of a Cell Membrane' is comparable to the sonic fragility of Syd Barrett's later recordings and the cosmic folk leanings of Vashti Bunyan, while 'Orange Coloured Everywhere' and 'Diagonal Green' take their cues from early Radiophonic Workshop experiments, detuned organs and gauzy field recordings awash, akin to the acid washed pop of Animal Collective. At its most abstract Cliffhanger is a sonic soundscape evocative of the soundtrack music of a 1960's John Frankenheimer thriller, these are set in contrast with touching and expansive minimal acoustic ballads included here. Still Smiling', 'Final World War' and Yamanoha's cover of The Misfit’s 'Hybrid Movement' are highlights on an LP which is both nostalgic and contemporary in equal measure.
Lætitia Sadier
A French musician best known as the singer of the British avant-pop band Stereolab. For almost 20 years, Laetitia Sadier fronted the dazzlingly retro-futuristic Stereolab, and she also made room to indulge in a playful dream-pop side project, Monade.
Her debut solo album, 'The Trip', was released in 2010. In 2012 she released her second solo album entitled 'Silencio' and Something Shines was released in 2014. Sound hypnotic vocals, sweet melodies, timeless songs. Something Shines was released in 2014 via Drag City. Sadier released the 2017 album Find Me Finding You under the name, 'Lætitia Sadier Source Ensemble'.
