Installation: Mike Tyka «Dreams Of Imaginary People» Soundtrack by Visible Cloaks
Visible Cloaks
Portland, Oregon-based duo of Spencer Doran and Ryan Carlile are the open-source musical entity known as Visible Cloaks, whose debut album Reassemblage and affiliated mini-album Lex both beamed to the world via RVNG last year.
Reassemblage finds Doran and Carlile incorporating an international array of virtual instruments to advance the idea of pan-globalism through digital simulation, with tones and colours cohering into a living, breathing pool of sensorial experience. With the “Fourth World” leanings of 80s Japanese ambient and pop (as explored by Spencer on his radiant 'Fairlights, Mallets, and Bamboo'… mixes) a crucial touchstone amidst a breadth of worldly musical influences, Visible Cloaks filter and form source material to become young again. Often the duo strip tonal elements of their specificity or randomize melodies so they become stirring and lucid. Essential patterns emerge, conscious experience heightens. In these moments, the musical language of Reassemblage finds unlimited resonance and presents a path to uninhabited realities.
Lex is the next look into Visible Cloaks’ enduring environment design through limitless sound. On Lex, speech centralizes and synthesizes as multiversal melody embedded across generative landscapes under open liquid skies. A hopeful glimpse into the future inter-being of human and post-human inhabitants.
Live, this becomes an inviting and immersive multi-sensual feast, with the pitch-perfect visual aesthetic of digital and installation artist Brenna Murphy (also responsible for the Reassamblage artwork and accompanying videos, including the short film ) extending the album’s exploration of global headspace into a visual, visceral reality.
Proc Fiskal
Joe Powers aka Proc Fiskal combines his ear for melodies and bulletproof beats alongside calculated realism in his samples and snips. Signed to the inimitable Hyperdub, Fiskal released the Highland Mob EP in 2017 carving a path into radio stations and internet streams worldwide. His debut album 'Insula' compounds his ability to design dulcet synth tones with progressive drum work. Tempos run from 140-160 with the production button fixed at max, Powers uses sounds of the tech generation to bounce serotonin and dopamine until you're happy to smile.
DJ'ing regularly in the Scottish capital, Proc Fiskal is already attracting the attention of major players in the DnB and Grime Scene. Having recently supported Wiley on his Scottish tour and with dates aligning for the remainder of 2018, Fiskal continues to mine the UK's electronic music scene.
Flora Yin-Wong
London-born producer, writer and DJ, Flora Yin-Wong works with field recordings, dissonance, and influences from contemporary club culture. Her debut EP 'City God', a tape release on New York's PTP, was followed up by contributions to Berlin-based label PAN's ‘mono no aware' LP. In 2017 she was invited to curate shows at London's Cafe OTO, where she had also performed her debut live shows. Besides contributions to Objects Ltd and Caridad Records alongside Lolina etc, she has previously remixed Halcyon Veil's Celyn June, Eaves and Scintii, and is currently working on collaborative tracks and remixes for Angoisse, Haunter Records, Danse Noire and Holodisc. Part of the label PAN since 2015, she has played its Berghain and Bloc showcases, as well as across Europe, Asia, and the US, and guesting on shows on Boiler Room, NTS, Know Wave, and BCR etc. Since performing live at Somerset House this year, she has been touring Asia across China, Japan and Hong Kong, and will be heading to New York to play at ISSUE Project Room's Regenerative Feedback event series, before shows at Razzmatazz and Brussels next month.
