Following their sold-out album launch at Islington Assembly Hall in April, international legends The Turbans bring their unique vibe to Camden's iconic venue The Jazz Cafe for a late summer smash with long-time collaborators Woodburner.
International musical adventurers The Turbans bind together music from ‘manywhere’, igniting audiences with the bacchanalian spirit of the Eastern Mediterranean. Drawing on the rich cultural heritage of both the Levantine and Balkan regions, they create original music for the 21st century, inspired by ancient melodies.
Sonically huge and visually arresting, the interstellar live show embodies the skill, experience and passion of intrepid instrumental explorers fro...m Turkey, Bulgaria, Israel, Iran, Spain, Greece and England, pooling their energy and creativity in a spirit of generosity and openness that is so needed in these troubled global times.
2 years in the making, mixed and mastered by legendary producer Jerry Boys (Ali Farka Toure, Everything But the Girl, The Beatles), their eponymous album was released on acclaimed US label Six Degrees Records in March 2018, when they featured live on BBC Radio 6 Music, BBC Radio 4 and Jazz FM.
The album was made possible due to a successful £20k Indiegogo campaign, which is testament to their enormous grassroots following and the carnival atmosphere of their hugely energetic live shows that has set festivals on fire in India, Hong Kong, Canada, USA, the Middle East and all over Europe.
“The Turbans are a stomping ensemble that sound like Eastern Europe swinging the Middle East around by the arm in the middle of a raucous party.” Songlines
