An exclusive Private After Hours Talk and Viewing of the finest Indian Treasures from the Royal Collection.

In October 1875, the Prince of Wales, Albert Edward, son of Queen Victoria, set off on an epic four-month tour, a journey that would see him travel 7,600 miles by land and 2,300 miles by sea. As he made his way through what is now India, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Pakistan, he shook hands of more than 90 rulers as he did his best to strengthen ties between the subcontinent and the British Crown.
During the trip, which took in the Himalayas and the Taj Mahal, the Prince was the guest of honour at numerous balls, dished out a few knighthoods, and took part in big game hunts, which even at the time was met with… a little controversy back home! However, once back on British Shores, the tour was declared a huge success and Queen Victoria decided to style herself as the Empress of India

Throughout the four-month tour, the 'Maharajahs', as the rulers were collectively known, presented the Prince with a succession of works of art as part of the traditional exchange of gifts between host and visitor.
Those gifts passed into the Royal Collection and as part of the UK-India Year of Culture, a selection of the most prized and valuable gifts are on display for the first time in an exhibition titled
'Splendours of the Subcontinent'.

The exhibition is designed to tell the story of the tour through watercolours, photographs and 74 of the most prized and valuable works of Art. Many of these items were precious heirlooms from personal treasuries, whilst others were specially commissioned by the Maharajahs from local artisans.

Kind HeART brings you a unique opportunity to see this exhibition AFTER HOURS.

About Kind HeART

Kind HeART is a joint venture between two friends to raise money for those with cerebral palsy, and extreme physical disabilities restricting mobility, who currently live below the poverty line in rural parts of Kenya & India. These children and adults end up leading isolated lives. We aim to get them moving through the distribution of wheelchairs, participation in the Jaipur Foot & Artificial Limbs programme, enabling them fuller lives and integration into society and community.

Raising money for a cause we love is one of the most exciting and inspirational things we have done. The more money we raise, the more lives we can help change. If you share our passion and would like to donate something extra to the cause, please feel free to contact us!

We are grateful for your support of our activities and look forward to seeing you at this amazing one day only event!
